Short History of Al Quran

Transcript of A Short History of Al Quran

A Short History of Al Quran When was Al Quran Revealed ? According to Islamic Scholars , the first revelation of Al Quran began in 22nd December 609AD till 632AD , a total of 23 years . The revelations began in the Cave of Hira , on the top of Jabal-ul-Noor , near Makkah. Where was Al Quran revealed (Contd.) It is noted that the first revelation of the Quran began when Angel Jibreel ordered Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) to "read" , but was replied "no" . This happened 2 times after which Jibreel revealed the first 5 ayaat of Surat-ul-Alaq. The scholars of Al Quran described that the suwar of Al Quran revealed before Al-Hijrah as suwar Makkiyyah .On the other hand , the suwar which were revealed after Al-Hijrah are known as suwar Madaniyyah . There are about 87 suwars Makkiyyah and 27 Madaniyyah , a total of 114 suwar . The word "suwar" is the plural of "surah" which means a chapter of Al Quran Teaching the Quran As you have learned , the Quran was revealed one passage at a time . In turn , Rasoolullah (SAW) taught his people the verses he received as soon as he learned them . Once he taught the people the verses , he told them to put it in action in their daily life. Recording of Al Quran Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to ask the Sahabahs to write down the ayaahs on wood , animal bones etc. Since most sahabah were unable to read or write, they were ordered to learn from the prisoners-of-war the simple writing of the time. Thus a group of sahabah gradually became literate. Quranic verses inscribed on the shoulder blade of a camel. Zaid Ibn Thabet , Ubayy Ibn Ka'b , Sa'd Ibn Abi Waqqqas were some of the scribes who documented the Quran . Immediately after Muhammad's death . The caliph Abu Bakr decided to collect the different chapters and verses into one volume. Thus, a group of reciters, including Zayd ibn Thabit, collected the chapters and verses and produced several hand-written copies of the complete book . In about 650, as Islam expanded beyond the Arabian peninsula into Persia, the Levant and North Africa, the third caliph Uthman ibn Affan ordered the preparation of an official, standardized version of Al Quran and was sent to these major Muslim cities. The original text of Al Quran we have today was collected shortly after the death of Prophet Muhammed during the time of Khaleefah of Abu Baker and later copied and distributed by the Khaleefah Uthman Ibn Affan . This important manuscript was the master of all the Quranic copies we have now. Thank You ..! By :Dr Peerbux baloch

International Islamic University about History

The Islamic International University (IIU) is the brainchild of Dr. Bilal Philips, who envisioned an institution that would offer online, intensive, undergraduate and graduate programs completely tuition-free.
IIU’s journey began with the launch of completely free online diploma courses in its open campus in 2007 and in 3 years’ time, in 2010, the first tuition-free Bachelor of Arts (BA) program was launched. The University now has seven colleges offering accredited online degree programs: College of Education, College of Islamic Economics, Banking & Finance, College of Psychology, College of Islamic Studies, College of Business Administration, College of Information Technology, and the College of Arabic Language and Linguistics. The College of English Language and Linguistics offers offline courses in the Gambia, Somaliland and Guinea Bissau. The Global Qur’an Memorization Center offers a unique opportunity to students across the globe to study the Qur’an online.
IIU history and development
2007
IIU was launched with completely free diploma courses, which are now available at the General Diploma in Islamic Studies section.
2010
The IIU introduced the world’s first tuition-free, online Bachelor of Arts in Islamic Studies (BAIS) program based on a modified curriculum derived from the Islamic University of Madeenah, Saudi Arabia, Omdurman Islamic University, Sudan, and Al-Azhar University, Egypt. This path-breaking initiative utilizes advanced open source online learning technology to make low-cost, university level education accessible worldwide to anyone who has access to a computer and the Internet.
Hence, the IIU operates on two virtual campuses: the degree campus and the diploma campus hosted on the university’s own dedicated server.
2013
This year IIU received global accreditation and a university license granted by the government of Somalia's Ministry of Higher Education, adding to the list of accredited universities in Somalia recognized by the UN and therefore recognized globally.
Furthermore, the IIU began to broadcast to the virtual world via Insights TV; television station dedicated to broadcasting free knowledge across the world. And also in the same year, the IIU’s magazine Insights and the Global Qur’an Memorization Center were successfully launched.
IIU launched a pilot Intensive English language course for madrasah graduates in the Gambia to meet their immediate needs, enabling them to pursue higher education in collaboration with the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE) and the General Secretariat for Islamic and Arabic Education (Amanah). The program is now being offered in three different countries: the Gambia, Somaliland and Guinea Bissau.
The same year, community service was made a mandatory graduation requirement of IIU undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
 2014
In 2014, the IIU received a license to operate as an International university in the Gambia from the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology in the Gambia.
This year, the IIU introduced new colleges: College of Education, College of Islamic Economics, Banking and Finance, and College of Psychology offering Bachelor’s degree, Diploma and Certificate programs. In addition, a new college of Arabic Language and Linguistics was launched, offering a 2-year Intensive Arabic program. The IIU also introduced a BA in Islamic Studies in Russian language, Ijaza program and a prison initiative.

2015
The IIU launched new programs for the youth, the Youth Dual Credit Program (YDCP), which offers the opportunity to enroll in IIU courses for educational enrichment. Upon successful completion of a high school diploma and the required YDCP courses, graduates receive an Associate’s Degree. The Open Education Program was launched for students who do not hold a high school diploma, which enables these students to join various university level programs at the IIU and receive attested diplomas upon successful completion of the required courses.
In addition, the IIU became a member of the International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE) founded in 1938 in Canada as the International Council for Correspondence Education. Today, the ICDE is the leading global membership organization for open, distance, flexible and International education, including e-learning, with members from 60 countries representing every continent.
Tuition-free, online programs including Master of Arts in Islamic Studies, Diploma and Certificate programs in Information Technology and Business Administration were also launched in 2015.
