It is noted that the first revelation of the Quran began when Angel Jibreel ordered Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) to "read" , but was replied "no" . This happened 2 times after which Jibreel revealed the first 5 ayaat of Surat-ul-Alaq. The scholars of Al Quran described that the suwar of Al Quran revealed before Al-Hijrah as suwar Makkiyyah .On the other hand , the suwar which were revealed after Al-Hijrah are known as suwar Madaniyyah . There are about 87 suwars Makkiyyah and 27 Madaniyyah , a total of 114 suwar . The word "suwar" is the plural of "surah" which means a chapter of Al Quran Teaching the Quran As you have learned , the Quran was revealed one passage at a time . In turn , Rasoolullah (SAW) taught his people the verses he received as soon as he learned them . Once he taught the people the verses , he told them to put it in action in their daily life. Recording of Al Quran Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to ask the Sahabahs to write down the ayaahs on wood , animal bones etc. Since most sahabah were unable to read or write, they were ordered to learn from the prisoners-of-war the simple writing of the time. Thus a group of sahabah gradually became literate. Quranic verses inscribed on the shoulder blade of a camel. Zaid Ibn Thabet , Ubayy Ibn Ka'b , Sa'd Ibn Abi Waqqqas were some of the scribes who documented the Quran . Immediately after Muhammad's death . The caliph Abu Bakr decided to collect the different chapters and verses into one volume. Thus, a group of reciters, including Zayd ibn Thabit, collected the chapters and verses and produced several hand-written copies of the complete book . In about 650, as Islam expanded beyond the Arabian peninsula into Persia, the Levant and North Africa, the third caliph Uthman ibn Affan ordered the preparation of an official, standardized version of Al Quran and was sent to these major Muslim cities. The original text of Al Quran we have today was collected shortly after the death of Prophet Muhammed during the time of Khaleefah of Abu Baker and later copied and distributed by the Khaleefah Uthman Ibn Affan . This important manuscript was the master of all the Quranic copies we have now. Thank You ..! By :Dr Peerbux baloch
